Roller Operator (Heavy Equipment Operator) - Effective from August 12, 2025
The examination is 3 hours long. It contains 60 questions and each question is worth 1 point. The required passing grade is 60%. The materials for your use during the examination are provided to you. They are: a pencil, a paper sheet, a calculator, a ruler and an eraser. No other material or reference document is allowed during the examination.
Skill content on which questions may be based
Section 1 – Planning the work and preparing the roller (20%)
- Planning the work (preparing the work to be done, interpreting the benchmarks, applying individual and collective safety measures)
- Inspecting the roller (checking fluids and components, cleaning roller components)
- Preparing the roller (adjusting accessories, starting the roller)
- Maintaining and parking the roller (lubricating components, storing and parking the roller)
Section 2 – Compact Aggregates (40%)
- Selecting the compaction level
- Selecting the rolling speed
- Determining the number of passes
- Determining the start and end points for each pass
- Making passes
- Checking the quality of compaction
Section 3 – Compacting butiminous surfacings (40%)
- Selecting the compaction frequency
- Selecting forward speed and engine speed
- Determining the number of passes
- Making the passes
- Making a correction
- Checking the quality of compaction
- Parking the roller
