Roofer Examination

The examination is 3 hours long. It contains 61 questions and each question is worth 1 point. The required passing grade is 60%. The materials for your use during the examination are provided to you. They are: a pencil, a paper sheet, a calculator and an eraser. No other material or reference document is allowed during the examination.

    • Using the appropriate equipment correctly and safely

Section 2 – Preparing to install roofings (18 %)

  • Preparing the roof
    • Preparing the deck and upstand
  • Preparing to install membranes on insulated, inverted, and ventilated roofs
    • Installing vapour barriers
    • Installing insulation
    • Installing support panels
  • Preparing to install shingles
    • Marking reference points
    • Installing drip edges and membrane
    • Installing flashing and projections

Section 3 – Installing and repairing roofings (65 %)

  • Installing membranes on insulated, inverted, and ventilated roofs
    • Installing single-ply membranes (PO, PVC, EPDM)
    • Installing elastomeric (two-ply) membranes
    • Installing multi-ply membranes (asphalt and gravel)
    • Installing liquid membranes (Hydrotech©)
    • Sealing roofs (drains, projections)
  • Installing asphalt shingles on the roof surface
  • Repairing membranes on insulated, inverted, and ventilated roofs
    • Analyzing existing roofing
    • Repairing roofing 
  • Repairing asphalt shingle roofs
