Statistical Portrait of Women in the Industry

Today, the CCQ is revealing the statistical portrait of women in the construction industry in 2020. The portrait presents the main indicators of women’s progress in construction careers. Overall, the number of women working on construction sites has increased continually since 2015, the year when the Programme d’accès à l’égalité des femmes (PAEF) was implemented. 

The Portrait: Some Figures

In 2020, 4,849 women were active on construction sites, representing 2.7% of the industry’s total workforce. Among them were 1,242 women who were beginning a career in construction. Most of them practised the trades of painter, carpenter-joiner, and electrician. The number of companies hiring women also rose to 3,294, or 12.7% of companies in the industry. 

In comparison, women represented 1.4% of the workforce on construction sites in 2015.
