Tractor Operator Examination - Effective from August 4, 2026
The examination is 3 hours long. It has 60 questions, and each question is worth 1 point. The required passing grade is 60%. The materials you need for the exam are provided to you. They are: a pencil, a blank sheet of paper, a calculator, and an eraser. No other materials or reference documents are allowed during the exam.
Elements of skills that may be the subject of questions
Operating a tractor includes operating a loader, a backhoe, and a bulldozer.
Section 1 - Preparing the equipment and performing pre-start checks (35%)
- Performing pre-start checks:
- Checking basic mechanical components before start-up
- Cleaning and greasing machine components
- Interpreting dashboard symbols
- Installing GPS system when required (especially Dozer)
- Assessing and securing the work environment:
- Inspecting the work environment and assessing potential hazards
- Planning the work area
- Planning safety measures
- Following surveying specifications:
- Interpreting surveying data and identifying types of markers (stakes, string lines, paint)
- Interpreting surveying plans nd survey measurements
- Interpreting surveyor data (Total Station, GPS, Laser)
Section 2 -Operating a loader and a backhoe (45%)
- Applying loading techniques:
- Preparing the loading area with the loader and the backhoe
- Loading materials into trucks (soil, sand, aggregate) or stockpiling them up
- Loading materials with accessories
- Applying excavation techniques with the backhoe:
- Using the right accessories for the type of work to be done
- Digging trenches, ditches, and cellars
- Backfilling and clearing an excavation
- Applying surface-preparation techniques with the backhoe:
- Applying procedures according to the type of site
- Performing handling tasks:
- Retrieving and transporting materials (wood, iron, concrete, pipes)
Section 3 -Operating a bulldozer (20%)
- Performing terrain-preparation work with a bulldozer:
- Clearing stumps, ripping, and loosening hard surfaces with a bulldozer
- Performing stripping and drainage work
- Performing infrastructure construction work with a bulldozer:
- Building the foundation of a road or parking lot
- Backfilling pipelines and utility lines
- Performing levelling and finishing work with a bulldozer:
- Spreading materials (sand, stone, earth)
- Grading terrain with proper drainage, a road structure, or a parking lot
