The construction industry is a major sector in Quebec, generating close to $67 billion in investments every year. The hundreds of thousands of people involved in the industry, and the companies that employ them, must be constantly on the move throughout the province.

The Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ), created in 1987, is responsible for applying the Act on Labour Relations, Vocational Training, and Workforce Management in the Construction Industry (Act R-20), which provides a legal framework for the industry. It is funded mainly by contributions from the total payroll of workers and employers in the construction industry.

Due to its mission and mandate, the CCQ offers many services to its clienteles, including social benefits, pension and insurance, vocational training and labour management. It also manages the application of the collective agreements in the construction industry.

The four general families of services offered by the CCQ are distributed into four key brands: Avantages sociaux (social benefits), Main-d’œuvre (qualification and access to the industry), Formation et perfectionnement (training and upgrading) and Vérification et enquête (application of Act R-20).

Both its history and its mission bear witness to the central role that the CCQ plays in a dynamic sector that influences all spheres of Quebec's economy.
