Refrigeration Mechanic - Effective from January 19, 2025
The examination is 3 hours long. It contains 60 questions and each question is worth 1 point. The required passing grade is 60%. The materials for your use during the examination are provided to you. They are: a pencil, a paper sheet, a calculator and an eraser. No other material or reference document is allowed during the examination.

Section 1 - Installing air conditioning and refrigeration systems (35%)
- Planning the work:
- Interpret different types of drawings, specifications, schematics and electrical diagrams
- Apply appropriate safety measures
- Installing bases, anchors and supports:
- Select, position and secure bases, anchors and supports
- Installing equipment, piping and accessories for air conditioning and refrigeration systems:
- Select, position and anchor equipment
- Install refrigeration piping systems
- Install controllers and fluid circuit accessories
- Perform a brazing procedure
- Install and connect control accessories
Section 2 - Starting up Air Conditioning and Refrigeration System (35%)
- Prepare for start-up:
- Leak-test and place the system under vacuum
- Add the refrigerant to the system
- Check and preset the various circuits (electrical, control, refrigerant, air and water) and components
- Perform start-up:
- Start up the system
- Make final adjustments
Section 3 - Maintaining and repairing Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Systems (30%)
- Maintaining air conditioning and refrigeration system:
- Perform maintenance on the various system components
- Carry out a refrigerant conversion (retrofit)
- Diagnosing problems with functioning:
- Gather information
- Determine the nature and cause of problems
- Carrying out necessary repairs:
- Shut down the system and take corrective action
