Carpenter-Joiner Examination - Effective from May 4, 2026

The examination is 3 hours long. It consists of 60 questions and each question is worth 1 point. The required passing grade is 60%. The materials provided for your use during the examination are: a calculator, a pencil, a sheet of paper and an eraser. No other material or reference document is allowed during the examination.

Skill Content on Which Questions May Be Based 

Section 1 - Build Formwork and Install Deep Foundations (28%)

  • Build concrete formwork:
    • Interpret formwork plans, specifications and sketches
    • Lay out a structure or building
    • Build formwork for footings, spread footings and concrete slabs-on-grade
    • Build formwork for concrete walls and columns
    • Build formwork for concrete beams and slabs
    • Build formwork for concrete stairs
  • Install deep foundations:
    • Frame retaining walls
       

Section 2 - Erect Framing and Perform Exterior Finishing Work (47%)

  • Build framing for floors, walls, partitions, roofs and stairs:
    • Build floor framing
    • Build framing for exterior walls and interior partitions (residential and commercial)
    • Assemble roof framing
    • Build wooden stairs
    • Interpret framing plans and specifications
  • Perform exterior finishing work:
    • Install exterior cladding
    • Install roofing systems on sloped roofs
    • Install exterior doors, windows and garage doors
       

Section 3 - Perform Interior Finishing Work in a Building (25%)

  • Perform interior finishing work in a residential or commercial building:
    • Carry out insulation and soundproofing work
    • Install ceiling and wall coverings
    • Install suspended ceilings
    • Install interior doors and finishing trim
    • Install wood or composite parquet flooring
    • Install built-in furniture
    • Assemble components of a wooden staircase
