Easing of an access measure for holders of an OCC

As of September 11, 2025, hours subject to Act R-20 are now considered in the calculation of hours of work experience for obtaining an occupation competency certificate (OCC).

Therefore, a person who demonstrates that he or she has acquired 750 hours of work experience subject and not subject to Act R-20 related to a targeted occupation may apply for an OCC. In order to be recognized, the tasks must have been performed in a context related to construction, with the tools used on a construction site.

Note that women, First Nations people and Inuit, and people representative of the diversity of Québec society may take advantage of this access route without having a job guarantee in order to promote their inclusion in the construction industry.

All the details on obtaining an OCC through recognition of experience are available on the page Occupation.

Modernization of the construction industry

As a reminder, since November 30, 2024, under the Act to modernize the construction industry, all individuals with 750 hours of work experience performed in relevant activities not subject to Act R-20 may apply for an OCC. The change made on September 11 broadens this path for access to the industry by also allowing hours subject to Act R-20 to be recognized.
