The Application for Retirement

What must employees do to receive their pensions?

They must contact the CCQ’s Customer Services, to obtain a personalized Application for Pension Benefit form. Since an employee’s pension benefits are determined on the first day of the month following receipt of the application, employees must contact the CCQ in the month prior to the date on which they wish to start receiving their pension.

The age that determines eligibility for retirement is the age at the date of retirement and not the date of the application. For example, an employee eligible for an unreduced pension at age 55 may apply for retirement on September 8 even if his 55th birthday is the following September 27, since he will have turned 55 before his date of retirement, October 1 (the first day of the month following his application).

The Application for Pension Benefit form presents the different pension options for which employees are eligible and the amounts payable. If an employee is eligible for partial retirement, then both the full and partial retirement options will be offered. Employees who wish to receive a pension must indicate their choice on the form and return it to the CCQ before the deadline indicated. The form must be duly signed and accompanied by the documents requested.

The monthly pension is payable as of the retirement date which is the first day of the month following the date of the employee’s application, if the form has been duly filled out and returned by the deadline. The form is valid for 60 days from the date of the application. After this period, if the employee wishes to retire, then he or she must request a new Application for Pension Benefit form as the amounts payable may have changed. The options offered to the employee may also be different.

Note: New pension options have been offered since November 1, 2013. They replaced certain options offered until October 31st, 2013.

Particular conditions, limitations, or exclusions other than those mentioned above may apply to the payment of certain benefits; only the Règlement sur les régimes complémentaires d'avantages sociaux dans l'industrie de la construction, published by the Éditeur officiel du Québec, has official and legal force.Nevertheless, the provisions that apply to a specific event are those in force at the time of this event.
