Safe use of cranes Examination

The examination is 2 hours long. It consists of 27 questions and each question is worth 1 point. The required passing grade is 60%. The materials supplied for your use during the examination are: a calculator, a pencil, a paper sheet and an eraser. No other material or reference document is allowed during the examination.

Section 1 - Regulations (22 %)

  • Applying the Regulation respecting occupational health and safety
  • Applying the Safety Code for the construction industry
  • Applying the Safety code on mobile cranes (CAN/CSA-Z150)

Section 2 - Crane assembly and installation (33%)

  • Determining the gross load
  • Determining the net load
  • Applying load rating charts to the configuration of the crane being used

Section 3 - Load transportation and handling (45%)

  • Determining structural failure limits
  • Determining overturning limits
  • Slinging a load
  • Applying safety factors
  • Using pulley blocks safely
  • Ensuring the quality of communication with the flagger
  • Knowing the meaning of signals
