Electrician Examination

The examination is 3 hours long. It contains 52 questions and each question is worth 1 point. The required passing grade is 60%. The materials for your use during the examination are provided to you. They are: a pencil, a paper sheet, a calculator and an eraser. Furthermore, two reference documents will be supplied to you. They are Québec Construction Code, Chapter V – Electricity, published by Canadian Standards Association (CSA), and Low-Voltage Electrical Service Standard, 10th ed., published by Hydro-Québec. No other material or reference document is allowed during the examination.

Section 2 - Heating, Lighting and Air Conditioning Systems (30%)

  • Preparing the work
  • Installing cables and conduits
  • Installing power and distribution panels, and installing of the electrical connection devices for the three systems
  • Locking out and unlocking

Section 3 - Installing Motors and Automated Control Systems (20%)

  • Installing components of power load systems
  • Installing control panels and devices
  • Fuse and conductor gauges
  • Connecting and parametering automated control systems
  • Electric measurements
  • Calibrating circuit breakers and starters
  • Lockout

Section 4 - Security Systems (10%)

  • Installing fire alarm, intrusion alarm, access control and video camera systems
  • Cabling and conduits
  • Structured cabling
  • Emergency power
