Employer Eligible for the Examination

Employers and independent contractors in a sector not subject to the Act Respecting Labour Relations, Vocational Training, and Workforce Management in the Construction Industry (Act R-20) or from outside of Québec in one of the trades or specialties of the construction industry may register for the provincial qualification examination under certain conditions. Candidates must demonstrate, with supporting documents, that they have practised a trade or a specialty and acquired experience in hours of work and, if applicable, apprenticeship hour credits at least equal to the total duration of the apprenticeship in the trade or speciality referred to.

A number of documents are required to analyze an application for registration for the provincial qualification examination:

  1. The form Admission to Pass a Qualification Exam – Employer or Independent Contractor, duly filled out
  2. Tax returns that establish income from an activity related to the trade or specialty for which recognition of hours is requested
  3. Financial statements of the applicant’s company so that income appearing in the income-tax returns can be verified and, in some cases, the percentage of ownership in the company can be determined. If the financial statements submitted for each year of activity include comments by a professional accountant recorded in a review engagement report or in an auditor’s report, you have to provide only, as indicated in point 4, a notice of assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) or Revenu Québec
  4. Notice of assessment from Revenu Québec or the CRA confirming that the income-tax return was received and processed
  5. An invoice or contract for each month covered by your tax returns that describes the nature of the work done, the client’s name, the date, and the billing rate. The invoices or contracts make it possible to establish whether the company’s activities correspond to the trade or specialty for which admission to the exam is requested

If the application is accepted, a fee of $100 will have to be paid to complete the registration for the provincial qualification examination.

It's important to note that the registration fee for the examination is not refundable and that it is valid for a 12-month period from the date of payment. It is therefore the eligible candidate's responsibility to contact our Client Services at most four (4) months BEFORE the expiration of the validity of his payment so he can take his exam within the set deadline.
