Worker Eligible for the Examination

Candidates must demonstrate, with supporting documents, that they have practised a trade or a specialty and acquired experience in hours of work and, if applicable, apprenticeship hour credits at least equal to the total duration of the apprenticeship in the trade or speciality referred to.

A number of documents are required to analyze an application for registration for the provincial qualification examination for a worker from a sector outside of construction or from outside of Québec:

  • One or more letters from an employer including (or work experience sheets in the form):
    • The employer’s company name, address, and telephone number;
    • The applicant’s name and social insurance number;
    • The trade or specialty practised;
    • A detailed description of tasks actually carried out and, if applicable, the type of equipment used;
    • A description of the sector in which the work was done. If residential, the type of housing must be specified;
    • The employment periods and the exact total of hours for each year;
    • The signature of a director of the company and his or her position;
  • Proof  of remuneration that can validate the employer letter(s): copies of pay slips clearly identifying the company name, the work period, and the number of hours worked, or copies of income-tax slips (T-4);

Submit the file to the Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ)

Applicants must take their file to the regional office in their region or send it to the following address:

Commission de la Construction du Québec
Dossier salarié
Case postale 2010
Succursale Youville, Montréal (Québec)
H2P 0B3

To accelerate analysis of the file, all documents must be attached and sorted by month and year. Please provide photocopies of these supporting documents. Original documents will not be returned. Analysis of a file takes at least 4 weeks. Applicants will be informed of the CCQ’s decision by mail. If the application is accepted, a fee of $100 will have to be paid to complete the registration for the provincial qualification examination.

It's important to note that the registration fee for the examination is not refundable and that it is valid for a 12-month period from the date of payment. It is therefore the eligible candidate's responsibility to contact our Client Services at most four (4) months BEFORE the expiration of the validity of his payment so he can take his exam within the set deadline. Otherwise, the eligible candidate will have to pay the fee again.

Relevant work experience acquired outside Quebec may be recognized in your apprenticeship. It could also allow you to access the provincial qualification examination directly to earn journeyman status. Click here to find out how to have work experience recognized.
