The trades of roofer and resilient flooring layer are affected by a regulatory change

A regulatory change adopted by the National Assembly on June 11, modifies conditions for the trades of roofer and resilient flooring layer. These changes come into effect on July 10, 2014.

Changes for the trade of roofer

Apprenticeship period
The number of apprenticeship periods increases to a total of two periods. The apprenticeship required for an apprentice roofer therefore rises from 2,000 to 4,000 hours.

Apprenticeship hour credits
The maximum apprenticeship hour credits for the trade of roofer rise from 900 hours to 1,200 hours.

Changes for the trade of resilient flooring layer

Apprenticeship period
The number of apprenticeship periods increases to a total of three periods. The apprenticeship required for an apprentice roofer therefore rises from 2,000 to 6,000 hours.

Apprenticeship hour credits
The maximum apprenticeship hour credits for the trade of resilient flooring layer rise from 900 hours to 1,500 hours.

Transitional measures

Transitional measures have been implemented for holders of a competency certificate who began an apprenticeship in the affected trades before the date that the regulatory change came into effect. They benefit from an acquired right with regard to wages. As apprentices, they maintain 85% of the wage of a journeyman. In addition, they preserve the right to apply to take the journeyman examination after 2,000 hours of apprenticeship.
