Life Insurance

Workers and retirees considered insured for life insurance

The insurance plans A, B, C, and D (basic, supplementary plans) and the Retirees Insurance Plan offer life insurance coverage.

In addition, workers who cannot be insured under plans A, B, C, or D, or under the Retirees Insurance Plan benefit from life insurance coverage in the following two situations:

  • If they were insured under plan A, B, or C in the preceding period, they obtain the life insurance coverage of plan C;
  • If they were insured under plan D in the preceding period, they obtain the life insurance coverage of plan D.

Example: A worker insured by plan B from January to June automatically receives life insurance coverage under plan C for the following insurance period (July to December) if he or she cannot be insured under plan A, B, C, or D or under the insurance plan for retirees.

People covered by life insurance

Life insurance benefits are payable upon the death:

The posthumous child of an insured is also covered.

Benefit amounts

The life insurance benefits vary depending on the plan.

An additional amount may be paid in the case of accidental death of a worker – that is, when the death results directly from an accident and occurs within 365 days of that accident. This additional amount is not paid in certain cases (for example, if the death results from a suicide, the commission of a criminal act, or participation in a riot).

The Bulletin MÉDIC Construction for each plan lists the benefit amounts.

Specific conditions, limitations, and exclusions other than those mentioned above may apply; only the Règlement sur les régimes complémentaires d'avantages sociaux dans l'industrie de la construction has legal value. The clauses that apply are those in force at the time of the event.
