Welcome

Crane operators & operators of concrete pumps with distribution mast

Starting on July 18 2013, changes to the Regulation Respecting the Issuance of Competency Certificates (R-20, r.5) and the Regulation Respecting the Vocational Training of the Workforce in the Construction Industry (R-20, r.8) will affect the trade of crane operator. This change will modify the rules for obtaining a journeyman competency certificate (JCC) and an exemption for operators of concrete pumps with distribution mast.

The trade of crane operator will now involve two apprenticeship periods of 2,000 hours (a total of 4,000 hours). It will be possible, however, to pass the provincial qualification examination for the specialty of operator of concrete pumps with distribution mast after having completed only 2,000 hours in this specialty.

The regulatory change will apply immediately to people without an apprentice competency certificate (ACC) or exemption for this trade. However, the regulation has set out transitional measures for people who already hold an ACC or an exemption. The table below explains how the regulatory change will apply to each situation:

Situation #1: Holder of a crane operator apprentice competency certificate (ACC)
Situation #2: Holder of an exemption for operator of concrete pumps with distribution mast
Situation #3: Person without crane operator apprentice competency certificate (ACC) or exemption
