Under the program, apprentices may apply for a taxable cash grant of $1,000 for the first two years of their apprenticeship. To be eligible, apprentices must:
- Hold a regular competency certificate–apprentice (CCA) in a “Red Seal” trade (the trade of elevator mechanic is excluded)
- Have obtained a first or second regular renewal of their CCA
- Have worked 150 hours between the date of issuance of the regular competency certificate and the date of the first renewal (first year of apprenticeship) or 250 hours between the date of the first renewal and the date of the second renewal (second year of apprenticeship)
- Have passed a course in their study program during each above-mentioned year of apprenticeship if the holder of the CCA does not have a diploma in the trade (in compliance with article 7).
The Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ) will automatically issue a letter of accomplishment by mail to eligible individuals. To receive the grant, apprentices will have to attach to this letter a copy of their competency certificate and the application form
